Sacred-Heart-Lewistown.jpgSacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church is located on the corner of East 3rd and North Dorcas Streets in downtown Lewistown, Pa.  We are part of the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pa., under Bishop Joseph McFadden.

This parish was founded in 1830, when a chapel was built on the present site, and then blessed by Bishop Francis P. Kenrick of Philadelphia, Pa., the diocese to which Lewistown then belonged. Catholics had been served as early as 1798 by a missionary priest stationed at Conewago. The current church building was constructed in 1922.  We now have about 550 families, with a parish school, K-5, of 78 students, erected in 1954 by Monsignor Owen F. Reilly.  We continue the legacy of our founders and forebearers by proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through word and sacrament, welcoming longstanding parishioners, newcomers and visitors to join us in praise and worship.  May God bless all who read this message and may we enjoy your company at our liturgies and social events described in this web site.
